greenhouse Gothic:
A photography exhibit in the portola, for the portola
Many of us have a deep connection with the last remaining block of greenhouses at 770 Woolsey Street. In an effort to preserve the floriculture heritage of the Garden District, we are honoring our past and chronicling our present through community events.
The Portola is home to many who believe in an agrobiodiverse future. Our photo series depicts our neighbors posing at the greenhouses in the spirit of Grant Wood’s iconic 20th-century painting, American Gothic. We aim to capture the steadfast pride and spirit of the Portola that has transcended the Garden District for generations.
